Estimate deck area, decking boards and surface material cost for a rectangular deck.
Enter your supplier’s material price. A zero price leaves cost unpriced. Example dimensions and allowances are editable.
Board rows = round up((deck width in inches + gap) ÷ (actual board width + gap)). Boards per row = round up(deck length ÷ stock board length). Add your waste percentage and round up again.
A 16 × 12 ft deck with 5.5-inch boards, a 0.25-inch gap and 16-foot stock needs 26 rows. With 10% waste, allow 29 boards.
Decking surface only. Boards run along the entered length. Counts assume no reuse of offcuts. Joists, beams, posts, footings, connectors, stairs and rails need a separate takeoff and structural design.
